Choosing A Digital Camera

When you decide to buy a digital camera you will find that you are spoilt for choice. There are so many cameras out there that it can be difficult to decide what will do the job for you. Canon, Nikon, Pentax of the big names and many more smaller manufacturers are producing top class cameras.

So how do you make a choice?

Of course price is important, but it is coming down all of the time. What you need to do is decide why you want a digital camera and what you expect of it. So check this out before you buy.

Basic Work
If you just want to produce pictures to put on the internet via your website or one of the social websites you can purchase a camera that can be had on a tight budget. This camera will have a low resolution, possibly only 3 million pixels. Budget cameras like this usually don't have an LCD screen or a zoom lens. Budget cameras like this are becoming more difficult to buy new, but if you are on a budget you will find them on E-bay. Remember that you will only be able to print out small prints because of the low pixel resolution. Try not to sacrifice removable storage. These cameras have internal space for storage, but you will need the camera to take a memory card if you want to take a reasonable amount of pictures.

Mid Price Cameras
If you are looking for better quality for more serious work, but still don't want to spend a fortune you are most definitely spoilt for choice. Mid price cameras are becoming more and more affordable. Mid price can give you a compact camera with 8million+ pixels allowing you printouts of A4 and above. At this price you can expect to expect a good zoom lens, making the camera very versatile. With a decent compact camera you will have the means to produce good quality prints. The compact camera is now starting to live up to its name. They are becoming so small that they can be carried around in your pocket or purse without taking up too much space and are very light in weight. The compact camera is the camera that the majority of the population will purchase. Even professional photographers spending possibly thousands of pounds/dollars on their equipment will be found using a compact camera in their private life. I keep a compact in my pocket and have taken photographs in places and in circumstances when I wouldn't have a larger SLR camera with me. Some of these pictures have made me quite a lot of money. A good reason for purchasing a decent quality compact.

Professional Cameras
If you are in the position of needing to buy a professional quality camera you will have it in your mind what you need and will not need advice from me. SLR cameras are getting better all of the time, while the prices are becoming quite affordable. If you are coming directly from traditional to digital photography you will have built up a preference for certain manufacturers gear. You will find that your lenses will be interchangeable between traditional and digital. This can save you a small fortune.

Software
When you are looking for your new camera see what software is bundled with it. Often you can pick up top software such as Photoshop Elements along with your camera. If you have no preference in choice of camera it will pay to look at what software is being offered.

One last thing – It doesn't matter what kind of camera you buy if you don't use it. Get yourself out and about and look for images to take with your new camera.
